To export permanent magnets to the EU market, suppliers must satisfy strict RoHS and REACH rules, which mainly control harmful substances inside magnet substrates, plating layers, adhesives and surface coatings.

For RoHS 2.0, 10 restricted substances have fixed limits. Cadmium must stay under 100ppm, lead, mercury and hexavalent chromium below 1000ppm, together with four banned phthalates. Nickel, zinc, epoxy and other coatings on NdFeB and ferrite magnets are the most likely violation points, so batch third-party lab tests from SGS or TÜV are necessary.

REACH brings three core obligations. First, SVHC candidate list testing: any high-concern substance cannot exceed 0.1% weight, and suppliers must send updated SVHC reports yearly as the list expands.
