Which Neodymium Magnet Grades Are Most Used for Motors?

Selecting proper neodymium magnet grades for motors mainly relies on temperature rise, since high‑temperature demagnetization is the primary risk for permanent magnet motors. Matching magnet grades to operating conditions guarantees stable performance and long service life for BLDC, industrial and automotive motors.

For small household motors with temperature rise below 80℃, N35, N42 and N45 are widely adopted. N45 delivers strong magnetic force with good cost‑performance, and N42 is highly versatile for vacuum cleaners and robotic sweepers.

N42H and N45H are suitable for industrial pump and servo motors working around 120℃, offering better anti‑demagnetization performance than standard N‑series grades. N42SH and N45SH are the most popular grades for 150℃ high‑temperature applications including hub motors and automotive auxiliary motors, thanks to high intrinsic coercivity.

For 180℃ new‑energy vehicle drive motors, N40UH and N42UH are available yet come with higher costs. Low‑cost devices like fans and wipers usually adopt Y30BH ferrite magnets.
