What Magnets Are Used in Wind Turbine Permanent Magnet Generators?
Wind turbine generator magnets require extreme temperature resistance, stable coercivity, and long service life for 20+ years of continuous outdoor operation.
The dominant shape for wind generators is arc segment magnets . This curved design ensures uniform air-gap magnetic flux, reduces cogging torque, and improves overall power generation efficiency. Flat blocks or ring magnets are rarely used in formal wind power PMG projects.
In terms of magnet grades, wind turbines strictly adopt high-temperature resistant SH and UH grade NdFeB magnets. The most popular standard grades are N42SH, N45SH for onshore wind turbines, and N40UH, N38UH for offshore and high-temperature wind farms. These high-coercivity grades effectively prevent irreversible demagnetization under high heat, strong vibration, and humid salt-spray environments.
Wind power magnet must be strict dimensional tolerance, advanced anti-corrosion epoxy or nickel coating, and consistent magnetic performance are mandatory.
